Relationships and its major types explained via a simple song

Jao na jao na jao na jao na…
[Tum jo ho to gaa rahi hai yeh hawa,
Tum jo ho to reshami si hai fiza,
Jao na jao na jao na..haan… jao na…
Jao na jao na jao na jao na…
[Tum jo ho to gaa rahi hai yeh hawa,
Tum jo ho to reshami si hai fiza,
Jao na jao na jao na..haan… jao na…
Hoo phir naa yeh raat aayegi,
Phir naa yeh rutt chahyegi,
Phir naa yu milna hoga,
Phir naa jaane kya hoga?
Jao na jao na jao na..haan… jao na…
Yeh raat thodi to dhalne do,
Dheere dheere isko pighalne do,
Aage hai do raah maana magar,
Thodi durr to saath chalne do,
Haan… Yeh raat thodi to dhalne do,
Dheere dheere isko pighalne do,
Aage hai do raah maana magar,
Thodi durr to saath chalne do,
Hoo khone wali ho kal tum,
Rukk sako jo do pal tum,
Kuch tumhari tasveerein,
Rakh lu apni aankhoin mein,
Jao na jao na jao na.. haan… jao na…

No, I am not converting this blog into a lyrics detailing website neither do I have any stake in the movie or the music company :-P,  the song is just something that I was hearing the other  day and which has inspired me to write this blog. But before I start off with this blog, I would like to say this is one of favorite songs, which has got a great melody while retaining its simple feel. You can read the lyrics above and watch video here on youtube.

While this song is beautiful, it also is an ideal example to depict any love affair. For example, this song is apt at the start of a love relationship, when the chemistry between the couple is budding and when the two are an inseparable lot sharing almost each and every thing (ahem). It is at this time that both the young at heart sing the song as is picturised in the movie viz., they have the pain the angst of separation.

Though this all hunky dory at the start of relation, there is dramatic and much expected twist as soon as the relation progresses and matures. Here the song switches onto these two major types, the first being

      a)      when the relation becomes clingy / needy i.e., one partner of the couple becomes the clingy type who always wants to be with the opposite partner, which results in the other partner aggrieved due to lack of space singing the song ‘Jao Na’ with the hidden meaning ‘Go Now, Give Me Some Space, Please, etc , etc.’ So the aggrieved partner basically wants the other person to be not so clingy and needy.

      b)      The other major type of mature relation is when one partner becomes overbearing or authoritative in the relation, calling all the shots in the relation. In this case, the other or the aggrieved partner sings this song ‘Jao Na’ in a pleading manner viz., asking the overbearing partner an opportunity to go out and enjoy. So basically this time the aggrieved partner is basically singing the song with the hidden meaning ’please let me go, can I go, should I go, my friends are waiting, etc’.

Readers of this blog may have various other categories of love relationships, however for me, these are two most commonly found.  While I wrote this blog to bring in the funny angle of a relation, I would also like to emphasise on how important it is for a couple to give each other space in a relationship while also sharing most of their important times with each other. This not only helps nurture and grow the relation but also prepare the groundwork of a strong, stable and fulfilling relation to make it a happily ever after love life. :-)

Let go back to dirt and grime

I recently read an article which propagated dirt and grime for improving immunity in children. This does not mean that we do not clean the children J , the article however highlights the importance of giving exposure to germ to children at a young age. As this helps increase the immunity of the tots in the long term. You can read the entire article here. It also reminds me of a similar concept used by acclaimed American movie director Steven Spielberg in his movie ‘War of the World’s’ where the extraordinarily strong and intelligent Alien clan is beaten by the relatively puny human race due to the latter’s immunity from the microbial organisms present in this hospitable planet.

This medical news piece has also made me realize how children spend so much less time nowadays in playgrounds or what we can in actual terms do any sort of physical activity. Today’s generation children are more involved in everything virtual, right from video games, computer games, mobiles and my favorite of the lot watching television J. The previous generations especially till (I presume) the turn of the century used to get down and out in physical activity. This would be playing cricket, football, chor police, hide and seek, etc. (I still do the first activity from time to time). While I can’t confirm if it has improved the immunity, it however did provide a regime of physical activity into us, which I feel is very important. This physical activity could be anything, right from playing a sport, to going for a jog, or just a brisk walk, etc. It not only provides the much needed exercise to the human body, but also provides a change from the monotonous mental strain (at work or while playing virtual games).

Hence I would advise the young and the old to inculcate some disciplined physical activity in their daily life, to provide enrichment to their body as they do for their mind. Additionally for all those doting or wannabe doting parents, keeping in mind the health article, do not worry of your children’s hygiene so much, let your children out in the open, let them play and get dirty. Copying from a slogan of a leading detergent ‘dhool mithi mein khelna acha hota hain!!!’

Mumbai, a city of dreams where people do not get enough sleep to dream

Indians or for the matter all people in the Indian sub-continent consider Mumbai to be the city of dreams. This could be because of the illuminating lights (backed by no load shedding), the money (financial capital), the Hindi movie capital (apun ka bollywood) and most importantly the splurge of opportunities available in this small island.

While it is true that the land does provide opportunities a plenty, but it also comes with a cost, which not only is the fact that the city is the costliest in the country, but also the cost of mental and physical peace.

Most of us here in Mumbai would agree with the title of this blog. It’s true for most working individuals in this city, where we spend more than half of the day (sometimes 2/3rd), either working or travelling back and forth from work, leaving us very precious little hours to sleep. So if we do not get enough sleep, how and what will we dream?

This also makes us lose our mental and physical peace, straining our relations and giving us very little time for our loved ones or what we say the work-life balance. And this I have observed and heard only happens here in the land of Mumbadevi, while most other places in the country carry on with their quintessential life.

Though this life on the fast track has helped the financial capital top most cities in the country, it has also deprived most of its citizens of living a life. While I do not expect slow down in the frantic pace of life in the city, I do suggest its citizens to slow down on their pace wherever possible so that they can their life to the fullest and not work just as robotic monsters.

P.S. - By the way, the average Mumbaiite due to their multi-tasking ability have found out a way of dreaming despite the little hours of sleep, this time with their eyes wide open.

Panel ad and the discomfort of reading a newspaper

Oh the horrors of reading a newspaper with a panel ad!!! While this was too much of histrionics, reading a newspaper with a panel ad on the first page does create a lot of discomfort for reading.

As explained to me by a very senior and leading editor in our company, who also happens to have experience of working in the newspaper publication house that I am writing about. A ad in the newspaper, which covers only the left half of the newspaper keeping the other half open to hold is called as ‘a panel ad’. While such ads on any page is an hindrance, I despise such an ad on the first page or what we hold on the first covering four page of any newspaper.

Though the ad may be eye catching, soul stirring, etc, it seriously acts as a hindrance of holding a paper properly to read. The only solution being either groveling while reading the newspaper or removing the first four page of the newspaper so as to read the remaining portions (of equal length and width) at peace.

Recently, however I think the publication has understood the perils of a panel ad in a newspaper and has started stapling or sticking the entire paper at the middle fold helping for easy hold and reading. Thank you!!! J

While staying on the newspaper, I would also like to touch up on another point viz., the probability of a customized newspaper for everyone. Wouldn’t everyone be happy if they could get the paper in the format in which they like to read the news? For instance in my case, I read the main headlines, then move on to the sports page and glance through juicy tidbits about world of entertainment. How would it be, if the newspaper that I get has news in the same order, with the remaining news after these three sections in any particular order (with an index for easy access)? So if I have some more time or interest, then I could go through the remaining pages. The only example that I have got in front of me of such a scene is in the newspaper is as seen in Harry Potter movies, where the newspapers not only highlight the recent happenings but also provide a very interactive version of the news as it happened.

Meanwhile publications houses have got aware of these customizations that nowadays people prefer with a new novel being published with 11 endings!!! These endings are customized as per the investor’s preference, details of which can be found here. While this may interest book aficionados, my simple wish would be to have a customized newspaper that I could hold easily and read at peace!!!
